re BOSSY LADY @ COLCOA FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL, DIRECTORS GUILD, LOS ANGELES...SO I'M SPENDING A FEW DAYS at this french film festival @ the directors guild on sunset blvd in hollywood...they have a lot of free screenings...so I enjoy learning more about french filmmakers ...but I don't enjoy sitting for hours on end without stretching...especially given my bad back...so during one film I went to the back and just stood there watching the film...bothering nobody...getting in nobody's way at all...very quiet..nobody even knew I was standing behind them...except for one lady...not sure who she was...I wish, in retrspect, I had asked her name ...asked her what authority she had...but I didn't (I just assume she worked for colcoa ...who else would care if I'm standing quietly in the back ?!) Anyways, she comes into the theatre for some reason and sees me standing there...and "postures" (ie makes a deliberate physical movement to stand next to me sort of the way a manager tries to bully an umpire at times when he thinks the ump has made a bad call). She apparently thinks she needs to get "muscular" with me, as if I'm supposed to be physically intimidated by this little lady? Actually, it's the little ones, and the ladies who bother me more because anything you do or say that they don't like is "cause" for them to go get security and say you're a troublemaker. She asks me why I am standing there. I say I have a bad back (seriously, I take medication for it and surgery has been recommended). But she has her mind made up that I am not going to continue standing there. She says "you can't stand here." I say "Why not?" She says "It's a fire thing." I'm thinking, "A fire thing? " One person standing in the back represents a problem in case of a fire? I'd be the first one out, not in anybody's way if there was a fire. But I know if I argue, that will be "just cause" for her to go get the latino security guard who would be happy for an excuse to be bossy towards the "white boy". SO I smile, and probably deflate the little lady thinking she was going to have a good excuse to boss me around, and simply say, "Oh, ok" and walk towards a seat without looking back. I could almost hear the sigh of disappointment coming from her. No fight from the white boy?! What's going on ? ha ha. That's right lady ! You can make up reasons to be bossy and try to emasculate me but the Bible has given me the answer. Just let them win (here on earth) because I have a better place to go when it's over, and this is a point for me. I turned the other cheek. I'm getting better at this game. It's not easy at first, but the more you do it, with intentionality, the more satisfying and habitual it becomes, with the power of God & the Holy Spirit! Thank you God !
